Read more: Structure of a Hexagram Read more: Overview hexagrams\" class=\"encyclopedia\">hexagram<\/a> <em>16 &ndash; Enthusiasm<\/em> I received a couple of questions concerning quite different issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&ldquo;How should I interpret my physical symptoms?&rdquo;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&ldquo;What point am I at right now?&rdquo;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&ldquo;Without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/success\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Central notion of the traditional interpretation of the I Ching. Meaning: fertilization, things that simply land at one's lap without voluntary accomplishment; the receptive, feminine principle, Kun. Also represented as clouds.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">success<\/a>, I can not keep living. But success always includes some failure. How can I deal with this?&rdquo;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&ldquo;What do I have to give up to be happy?&rdquo;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A user asks the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/i-ching\" target=\"_self\" title='The I&nbsp;Ching (Chinese &#63968;&#32147;, y&igrave; jing, W.-G. I&nbsp;Ching, auch: I Jing, YI&nbsp;Ching, Yi King; \"The Book of Changes\") is based on cosmology and philosophy of ancient China, particularly Daoism (Taoism). Basic ideas behind the I Ching include balance of opposites and acceptance of change. Personally, I have always been amazed by the name of this <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">hexagram<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">: enthusiasm. How in the world can something like enthusiasm arise from the combination of <em>Kun, <\/em><\/span><em><span lang=\"en-US\">the <\/span><\/em><span lang=\"en-US\"><em>earth<\/em> (lower <a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/trigram\" target=\"_self\" title=\"The eight trigrams are the basis of the I&nbsp;Ching. They are composed of three solid (Yang) or broken (Yin) lines. Two trigrams form a hexagram, one image of I&nbsp;Ching. The colored trigrams link to the respective chapters in the I Ching Course where they are explained in detail. Chinese Name Traditional Image Traditional Characteristic Modern&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">trigram<\/a>) and <em>Zhen, <\/em><\/span><em><span lang=\"en-US\">the <\/span><\/em><span lang=\"en-US\"><em>thunder<\/em> (<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">upper<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> trigram)?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is exactly <span lang=\"en-US\">this question &ndash; how does enthusiasm arise from <em>Kun<\/em> and <em>Zhen<\/em>? &ndash; <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">which <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">I asked myself <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">when <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the answer literally crossed my path. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">It crossed my path <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in the form of an incident that made me <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">suddenly<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> understand how something like&hellip; enthusiasm!&hellip; <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">eventually <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">could <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">arise<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> from what the winding paths of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/changing-lines\" target=\"_self\" title='Depending on the divination method (yarrow stalks, coins or electronic oracle as we use it on no2DO), different numerical values result for each individual \"throw\": no2DO oracle (electronic): 7 or 8 coins or yarrow stalks: 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 The values 6 and 9 are regarded as changing lines, i.e. they change&hellip;' class=\"encyclopedia\">changing lines<\/a> suggest.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The story goes something like this: Quite a long time ago a damage was done to me, which I noticed only many years later. As a result, I broke off contact with the person in question. And then recently I run into someone I hadn&rsquo;t seen in a very, very long time <span lang=\"en-US\">and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">who knows the story and everyone involved. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">That day we<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> talk<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ed<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> about this and that, but then the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">conversation<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> turn<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ed<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to this ancient story and&hellip; somehow I had the feeling that my counterpart wanted to sound me out <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in the form of<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">: &ldquo;Well, and how do you feel, as a victim?&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At that <span lang=\"en-US\">very <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">moment I realized: I don&rsquo;t want that <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">any more<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. I <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">no longer want <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">see myself as a victim. Because that&rsquo;s what I had done, for some time, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">because<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the damage had indeed been great, the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">whole <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">thing <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">vile<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. But I <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">had <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">worked it out for myself <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">since then<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, intensively even, and at some point&hellip; yes, you can put it that way: <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">A<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">t some point I made my peace with it. The <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">chapter<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> was closed for me.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then this person comes and&hellip; wants to see me (again) as a victim. No thanks, no need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At that moment, the <span lang=\"en-US\">changing<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> lines <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of the hexagram <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">made <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">suddenly <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">sense to me. I am in a place where I am at peace and comfortable (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/kun-the-earth\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Modern Interpretation: Accepting that what is here and now; peace, stability, resting within oneself, feeling supported and maintained; to make good use of things; relationship and commitment; self-esteem; compassion The following image is often chosen to describe Kun: soil in which a seedling is growing. Soil is unstructured matter: in soil a seedling finds everything&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Kun, the earth<\/a><\/em>). The <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">victim story<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">lies<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> long behind, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">is <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">worked through. And then someone speaks to me about the old incident and I realize: <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">H<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ey, that&rsquo;s not it anymore. The chapter &ldquo;I, the victim&rdquo; is <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">done with<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. It&rsquo;s no longer a description that applies to me. I am now much more than &ldquo;the victim&rdquo;&hellip; Voila: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/gen-the-mountain\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Modern Interpretation: Disengagement; transformation; harmonization Gen stands for our ability to disengage. Through letting go of what has become obsolete we can focus on what is essential, concentrate our energies and make room for the new. Disengagement harmonizes and focuses our actions and results in reorientation and new beginnings. Gen invites us to honestly examine&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Gen, the mountain<\/a><\/em>, releasing what has become <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">obsolete<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, let&rsquo;s follow the course of the changing lines even a bit further: What does it mean if I let go of the term &ldquo;the victim&rdquo;? And replace it with something else, perhaps with &ldquo;the one who made it (anyway)&rdquo;? Then, clearly, the glasses with which I look at the world change (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/kan-the-water\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Modern Interpretation: Basic trust; intuition; ancestral energy Kan represents our basic trust and our unconscious resources, a distillate of our own &ndash; and sometimes third party &ndash; experiences and information that lie beyond our daily consciousness. Impulses and inspirations emerge from Kan and may trigger decisions or initiate actions. If we follow this gut feeling&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Kan, the water<\/a><\/em>). I no longer see all the little episodes where I&rsquo;ve been screwed, but I suddenly see&hellip; all that I&rsquo;ve managed and overcome in my life. And instead of fear and <span lang=\"en-US\">worries<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, I am suddenly filled with&hellip; enthusiasm ? in the face of the path <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">that lies ahead of me, the path<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">wards<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> myself (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.no2do.com\/synopse\/en\/glossar\/zhen-the-thunder\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Modern Interpretation: Ability to make decisions; determination, enthusiasm, courage; precision; flexibility, strength Zhen represents our ability to make decisions, our determination, enthusiasm, courage, and precision; but also flexibility and strength belong to Zhen.
